20 Dollar Store Organizing Ideas That Will Blow Your Mind
Check out your local Dollar Tree where you’ll find baskets, bins, hooks, jars, labels, containers, bowls, trays, and more. It’s truly a treasure trove of frugal organizing supplies!
Here are my favorite dollar store organizing ideas that will show you how to use all of those dollar store treasures.
1. Organize jewelry with utensil trays
What a cute and fun way to display your favorite pieces of jewelry! Simply grab a couple of utensil trays from the dollar store, spray paint in fun colors, line with decorative contact paper (which you can also find at the dollar store), and mount to the wall. You can use command hooks or tacks inside of the individual cubbies to hang bracelets, necklaces, and earrings.
2. Organize spices with a DIY spice rack
This nifty DIY dollar store organizing hack is made out of flat cooling racks that are bent and mounted to a pantry door.
3. Organize toiletries in the shower
This is a great way to store bath toys, toiletries, bath poufs and more. Make sure you use a command hook designed for wet places, or else the baskets will fall.
4. Organize with jars-DIY gold animal jars
I love this elegant, yet cheap way to organize cosmetics. You can use any glass jar with a lid. Pick up some plastic toy animals (or whatever strikes your fancy) and spray paint them gold (along with the lid). Attach with strong glue to the tops of the lids.
5. Organize the pantry
Organizing the pantry can get expensive, fast! Why not use color-coordinated baskets and bins from the dollar store to get the look of a professionally organized pantry for less? You can even find chalkboard labels at the dollar store to complete the look.
Oh, and see those lazy susans on the top shelf? They are actually made from two dollar store round pans with marbles in between to make them spin!
6. Organize beauty supplies with a DIY tiered tray
This DIY dollar store organizing hack is so simple to do and you can use it to organize so many things! Just get yourself some plates (from the dollar store, of course) and a couple of glass candle holders. Attach the candle holders to the bottoms of the plates with a strong adhesive and let dry.
7. Organize a chest freezer
Is the meat in your deep freezer constantly getting freezer burnt before you have a chance to cook it? Grab some plastic bins from the dollar store and organize meats and other frozen foods by type and date. You’ll end up saving time and money because you never need to dig for your frozen food again!
8. Organize drawers with plastic bins
Corral small items in drawers with small, shallow, plastic bins from the dollar tree. Perfect for organizing kitchen gadgets, toiletries, makeup, hair accessories, and so much more!
9. Use a shoe organizer for gift wrap storage
Create a handy gift-wrap station on the back of a door with a dollar store shoe organizer, a bit of fabric, and a couple of command hooks.
10. Organize the refrigerator with bins, jars, and magazine holders
I love the way this refrigerator is organized with a combination of more expensive acrylic bins and a lazy Susan combined with inexpensive, dollar store baskets and magazine holders.
11. Organize the laundry room with colorful baskets
Upgrade the look of wire laundry room shelves with colorful baskets and bins. I love the idea of using wooden clothespins and cardstock tags to keep everything labeled!
12. Upgrade dollar store bins with spray paint and tags
Not a fan of the colorful plastic look? No problem. Here’s a simple way to glam-up cheap, plastic dollar store containers. Spray paint them with a metallic paint made for plastic. Then, affix some cute labels made of twine, wood tags, and chalkboard stickers as shown below.
13. Organize beauty products with DIY storage jars
This DIY dollar store storage idea is similar to the tiered plates shown earlier. Except, instead of plates, you use glasses. It’s an easy way to organize beauty supplies on a budget.
14. Organize small toys with ice cube trays
You can also use ice cube trays to organize small craft supplies, jewelry, and office supplies like paper clips and tacks.
15. Organize cabinets with a DIY dollar store lazy Susan
The lazy susan shown below was made out of two large stove burner covers which were stacked together after placing several beads between them. Not feeling crafty? Here’s my favorite affordable lazy susan.
16. Organize craft supplies with pegboard and dollar store baskets
Pegboard is one of my favorite ways to use vertical space to organize everything from craft supplies, tools, kitchen utensils, office supplies, and everything in between. You can use s-hooks (or pegboard hooks) to attach baskets from the dollar store that can hold anything your organized heart desires!
17. Create toy storage in a garage with dollar store baskets
If you’ve got kids, then you’ve got outdoor toys! There’s just no way around it. However, organizing your kiddo’s outdoor equipment doesn’t have to be expensive!
Grab some dollar store baskets in assorted colors so you can organize toys by type (think: blue for pool toys, green for balls, red for games) or by kid (blue for kid #1, red for kid #2, green for kid #3).
18. Organize closets with dollar store bins, baskets, and containers
Are you sensing a theme here? Dollar store baskets, bins, and containers combined with chalkboard sticker labels are the way to go when it comes to organizing your home on a budget!
19. Organize a linen closet with dollar store laundry baskets and labels
What better way to organize a linen closet than with laundry baskets! In a pinch, they can be emptied and used for actual laundry!
20. Use a dollar store napkin holder to organize kitchen towels
This is an easy/cheap way to keep kitchen towels or cloth napkins dry and organized. Find some pretty napkin holders at the dollar store and hot glue them together to copy the look shown below.
